Connected to a whole new world

Computer-Crazy Nathan Gelson was delighted when he received a PC of his very own from the Sunshine Fund.

Nathan, from Wallsend, has severe autism and learning disabilities but has always loved playing and learning on the computer at his school, Parkside.

Mum and dad, June and Bill said: “Over the past two years Nathan was getting less active and not engaging as much as he had been doing and his occupational therapist and his social worker suggested he might benefit from a computer at home.”

“Before, he would lie in his bedroom or on the settee but now we can put him on the computer and he really responds to it. There are lots of stimulating programs that use music which he really loves and they have made a tremendous difference.”

And June said Nathan ’s brother and sister, twins Tom and Lauren also enjoy playing on the computer with their brother.

She continued: “Having the computer has eased some of the pressure on me because the twins love the computer as much as Nathan and all three crowd round it to play on the games it has.
