Triking a blow for the needy

Daniel Henderson suffers from a genetic disorder which affects his muscles. The Sunshine Fund were delighted to purchase him a specialist trike, which was presented to him during assembly at his school.

Daniel, five, from Blyth, has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and was presented with a specialist trike at a school assembly in September 2006, by the Sunshine Fund.

Mum Sharon, and Dad Bill, are both on income support and are full time carers of Daniel, who goes to Newsham First School, in Warwick Street, Blyth.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disorder which causes progressive muscle weakness as the muscle cells break down affecting only boys, with extremely rare exceptions.

Bill said: “ Daniel will benefit a lot as Muscular Dystrophy mostly affects the legs. It will really help him medically. Daniel tried a specialist trike a few months ago to see if it would suit him - He enjoyed it so much that we had to chase after him.”

“Daniel is literally over the moon with his new bike. He’s absolutely delighted.”
