Sitting Pretty
Amy Wilson, who suffers from a degenerative brain disorder, is now travelling in comfort thanks to a grant from the Sunshine Fund for a special car seat.
Amy’s mum, Michelle told the Sunshine Fund, ‘She did have a normal car seat, but they only go up to five years”.
Michelle went on to say, “because of her condition, Amy is quite big for her age. Her old car seat made her cry because the straps were too tight.”
Amy’s condition is still undiagnosed but doctors have confirmed that it is degenerative. She is visually impaired, has epilepsy and cannot walk, but she can hear perfectly well and uses baby Makaton to communicate.
Amy’s new seat, which was recommended by her portage worker, has a neck roll and hip belt to ensure that she always sits in a straight position, as well as speakers in the headrest so that she can listen to music.
The donation came just in time for Amy, who is due to start school soon. Thanks to the Sunshine Fund the family can all travel in comfort.
