Now he’s on the ball
08 October 2009
It’s kick-off for football-loving Harry Bucknell, who received a brand new walking frame through the Sunshine Fund.
The 11-year-old has cerebral palsy and the special walker gives him the freedom and mobility to have a kick-about in his back garden.
Harry’s family spends £6,000 a year taking him for intensive rehabilitation therapy in Budapest. Carol said: “We couldn’t afford to pay for a walker on top of all the travel and treatment expenses, and we were delighted when the Sunshine Fund said they would support us. It was brilliant, just amazing.
“The walker has changed his home life so much. Sitting around in a wheelchair was quite frustrating for him, and now he can go out and walk around. The walker is much better than ones he has had in the past, it turns so he can stand up and kick a ball”
The Sunshine Club raised around £2,500 to buy the walking frame, which is much easier for him to use than other equipment.
Sunshine Fund manager Jo Harris said: “We are very pleased we could provide Harry with the walker. We hope the frame will make a big difference to his life.”
